Silk Laundry Fashion Reflections

Silk Laundry Fashion Reflections – James Street Photography

Since 2022, I’ve returned often to photograph Silk Laundry’s boutique at Shop G2/50 James St, Fortitude Valley. I’m drawn to the interplay between their minimalist styling, seasonal storytelling, and the reflections that gather on the shopfront glass — sometimes showing passing foot traffic, sometimes the giant tree out front, and occasionally, me.

Inside, mannequins model the label’s signature silhouettes — draped silks, structured cottons, and distinctive textures. One window featured a grandpa-style shirt in natural cotton grid, paired with a silk scarf. Another included a knitwear piece staged among oversized papier-mache mushrooms — part of an installation by Carla Binotto that brings whimsy into the boutique’s neutral palette.

These black and white images focus on how light moves across fabric, the geometry of props, and the stillness of mannequins framed by street reflections.

I explore and document urban and natural environments, often focusing on reflections, shadows, and patterns. My camera walks allow me to capture found objects and scenes that tell stories through everyday details. In my journal, I share these explorations and offer a glimpse into my process.
