Unexpected Encounter: An Artificial Rose Stem
Today, I ventured out to test my camera after a routine maintenance check. Despite the dull, overcast morning—a time I’d usually leave my camera at home—I needed to ensure it was functioning properly.
Wandering near Gasworks Plaza along the Skyring Terrace footpath, I spotted an artificial rose stem tangled in the leaves of a zamia furfuracea plant. Was it a remnant of a romantic gesture, perhaps held between Zorro’s teeth during a dramatic tango? Or maybe it was part of a Halloween costume? Weathered and on the verge of disintegration, the stem had its own story.
I decided to make it the centrepiece of my impromptu shoot. I experimented by positioning it on the handlebars of an electric scooter, balancing it on an outdoor drinking fountain, and threading it through a metal panel punctuated with circular cutouts.
If you appreciate the allure of a rose, you’ll find a limited edition Rose artwork available in my shop.
